Project SNOHOW was created to advise families and individuals about ski equipment and skiing in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. We also offer ski tune-up services.

Val is the face and the brain behind SNOHOW. He is an independent ski gear consultant who has worked in the ski industry for dozens of years.

He is a certified ski technician with experience in ski design and manufacturing, and a passion for technical ski apparel.

He has undergone extensive training through over 150 online and in-store product and material sessions, making him one of the top 5% of ski experts in the U.S. (experticity.com).

Val will provide ski expertise and save you irreplaceable time and energy.

    Are you sponsored? How do you go about recommending gear?

    No, I wish! My gear recommendations come from personal experience using equipment + years of working in ski retail + conducting scientific research on which materials and fit are most optimal. On top of that, I want what is best for you and I would never recommend something that is significantly out of your current budget, nor would I tell you to replace equipment that can still be used or easily repaired (see: my guide on cleaning your ski jacket).

    Are there any ski-related services you don’t provide?

    Yes. I cannot help you with technical issues that are a major safety concern, such as adjusting or repairing boot bindings.

    Can you do virtual consultations?

    Yes, to an extent. Certain fittings are best done in person, and unfortunately I am not yet technologically equipped to sharpen your skis over video chat. Shoot me a message and we can chat about it!
